White crystalline powder, melting point 74~75℃. Soluble in water and ethanol, soluble in fatty acid esters, insoluble in hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and other hydrophobic solvents. When acid is present in aqueous solution, it will rapidly polymerize into insoluble resin when heated. Because the molecular structure contains vinyl groups with polymerization properties and hydroxymethyl groups with condensation properties, it is most effective in cross-linking linear polymers. If co-polymerized with acrylate monomers, hydroxymethyl is introduced and can be cross-linked by heat only. Low toxicity, LD50420mg/kg.
